AFRO-PERUVIAN

This genre is the result of the fusion between African traditions brought by slaves during the colonial era and indigenous and European, especially Spanish, influences. Over time, this mixture has given rise to a rich and diverse cultural expression that is an integral part of Peru's heritage. The Afro-Peruvian percussion section is performed with Peruvian cajón, tumbadoras, bongo, Peruvian cajita, quijada, campana and cucharas.
